Swann Laptop Lock Alarm

For less than $30 or so comes a wonderful idea for just about anybody who works on a laptop. I’ve heard way too many stories of somebody just having their laptop grabbed from a table at a cafe, or taking their eye off their computer for 2 seconds in airport lounge, only to never see it again.

Now as we know, if a crook really wants to get something, they will figure a way, but this cool little device provides a great deterrent. It runs off of little “hearing aid” batteries, has a standard 3 digit combination lock and 2 feet of cable you can use to tether your laptop to something sturdy. If somebody makes a grab for it, a piercing 110db (loud) alarm will sound. Oh and a light will flash too.

Swann also makes a heavier duty lock for a few bucks more, that has a longer cable, as well as lots more sophisticated equipment if you simply want to lock yourself in and turn your place into Fort Knox.

I know that Kensington has had the lock on PC locks (yes, pun intended) for quite some time, but I don’t think I’ve seen anybody else with one of these puppies that lights up and screams

It just seemed like a good idea to me. And until they make one of these things that would squirt the thief with permanent purple dye, it will have to do the trick.

They’re available all over the internet, as well as at Ritz Camera, Fry’s Electronics, Radio Shack
